Dolphins from Denarau: The Only Guaranteed (90%) Day Trip to see Wild Dolphins and More!

Why are there no trips to see dolphins from Port Denarau or Nadi? Because the closest reliable place to see them is on the sunshine coast about two hours from Denarau. The only consistent dolphin spotting trip accessible from Denarau that we are aware of is here. Plus the trip offers do much more, read on!

There always has to be one show off!
Blue Skies, great visibility, healthy thriving reefs and marine life. All to yourselves. The Greatest Secret Day trip from Denarau. Perhaps not so secret anymore!

There is a house in’…no really there is a hotel approximately two hours from Denarau called Golden Point Resort. https://www.goldenpointresort.com/ It is almost at the very northern point of Viti Levu and it is home to some spectacular waters and dolphins. They will arrange to have you picked up from your resort or you can enjoy a self drive adventure through the true cane-belt (the sugarcane growing area) of Fiji. Don’t worry you can’t go wrong. Head out of Nadi and go straight until you reach the resort!

The Resort was the dream of Sunny & Rachel, two locals, who with hard work and application have made it become a reality. Fishing was and is a passion of Sunny’s, and so naturally his fishing trips morphed into being incorporated into the resort’s operations.

Years went by and new and better and bigger boats were acquired and fishing trips changed with access to new waters. As the new waters were explored, lo and behold a pattern began to emerge as dolphins regularly came to the boat in certain locations, pretty much every trip. Then Sunny and his crews worked out if the dolphins weren’t in one place they were almost certainly in another.

Now seeing dolphins from time to time on fishing or any boat trips can happen but Sunny recognised the pattern and worked out that he had dolphins living literally on his doorstep. The two places are where they hang out. And so he started taking people to see the dolphins. Nine times out of ten they are there.

Dolphin watching became so popular Sunny and Rachel decided that instead of just offering fishing charters they would make up a half day trip that incorporated the dolphin viewing. And boy has it become popular. There is nowhere else from Denarau that we are aware of that is as sure of consistently seeing dolphins as from Golden Point Resort.

The rest of the time on the trip is no less enjoyable. After arriving at the resort the first step is to feed the home tame fish before embarking. Then it is off, departing at 8.30, to see the dolphins. After frolicking with them for a while above the water it’s time to see what’s under the water. Now with mask and snorkel in hand you are in for another surprise. The visibility in these waters is simply awesome and the range of both hard and soft corals and millions of fish and underwater life is simply staggering. Check out the videos accompanying this story and see for yourself. This place is the REAL DEAL.

During your exploration of the underwater world be sure to mark out all the best fishing spots because next it’s off for some hand-line fishing. Just kidding, the boat captains know the best spots. All sorts of fish are on the menu here and the best part is you get to keep them if you want. If you get something substantial take it back to your Resort and have them prepare it for you. Your Resort will have recommendations on the best preparation for the type of fish you have. If your captain and crew say take it, do so!

After a spot of fishing it’s off to a nearby sandbank for selfies and to enjoy the purity of your unmatched surroundings. This is the Sunshine Coast of Fiji and she will show off for you.

From the sandbank it’s back to the Resort arriving around 1-1.30 pm. The Resort is a Hotel with a fabulous kitchen and a full bar. Believe me, you should try their kitchen. You will need to make arrangements in advance, that is when you book, if you wish to have lunch when you return or to have a picnic lunch made for you. Maybe have your Captain call ahead to tell them to get ready to cook up your catch – fresh fish of the day? Breakfasts can also be arranged.

Cover up, it’s the Sunshine Coast remember and you will be on and in the water.

Private parties of up to sixty people are welcomed. Just get in touch with the Resort to make your arrangements.

It’s a mighty big day and a wonderful one.

A Perfect combination! Your Captain knows where the dolphins live and hang out – and the dolphins know the boats.
Lindsay with a simply scrumptious Salmon Cod. One of Fiji’s most prized table fish. They don’t come any better than this! Get your captain to call ahead and have the resort ready to cook it for you. Perhaps prepare some sashimi and Fijian kokoda.
